Well, after some Kerfuffle (that's a technical term) on ido, where one woman voiced serious concern over the implication that breastfeeding ends at 12 months, it would seem that the forum administrators saw a little sense.
Accomodating the very mixed community of breastfeeders, and formula feeders, they created a thread labelled nutrition. (After all, we can't offend anyone in this PC day and age) It's a small win I suppose, at least the implication of breastfeeding ending is gone.
It would be nice to see breastfeeding actively promoted, but we all seem to have to walk around on tiptoes, so as not to cause mother's guilt to anyone. ( I see this as such a moot point, as no mother in sound mind, would make any decision that they didn't believe was in the best interests of their child) However, I don't believe that accurate information is available to all mothers, nor do I believe that the average mother has time to do the extensive reading on formula and breastfeeding, that would truly allow them to make an informed choice.
And while baby formula, is continuously marketed, as being perfectly safe and healthy - an acceptable altertative to breastmilk.... It can only be expected that with the information mothers are actively encouraged to read - formula will continue to appear perfectly fine.
When mainstream media, accepts the burden, of disseminating the truth, the whole truth, the accurate truth, no holds barred - it will be a great day for babies.
